I've been passionate about art for as long as I can remember, although I wasn't always aware of labelling it as "art" back then. Art became my lifeline amidst the chaotic environment I grew up in.
With a Master's degree in Philosophy and a graduate degree in Art, I've dedicated over 15 years to working in the educational field, collaborating on diverse interdisciplinary art projects and discourses, and publishing essays and books. No matter where I've resided or what I've pursued, art has consistently played a significant role in my life, often serving as a coping mechanism during challenging times. The creative process of art-making has not only aided my own well-being but has also benefited those I've worked with by fostering their personal development, enhancing the mind-body connection and promoting psychological well-being.
Recognizing the transformative potential of creative expression and driven by a desire to consolidate and integrate my existing knowledge and experience, I made the decision to immerse myself in the field of Art Therapy and become a licensed art therapist approved by IPHM (International Practitioners of Holistic Medicine), CMA (The Complementary Medical Association), and CPD (Centre of Excellence).
Extensive research attests to the effectiveness of art therapy as a powerful tool in mental health treatment. Art stimulates various regions of the brain, aiding individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, PTSD, and even long-term illnesses, such as cancer. Additionally, art-making is linked to improved memory, reasoning, and resilience among older individuals. For children, teens, and those with physical and developmental disabilities, art therapy proves particularly invaluable in reducing stress and anxiety.
Integrative art therapy combines different concepts and techniques to fit your unique needs that look at your mind, body, and feelings together. It's teamwork between you and the therapist to find what makes you anxious, unhappy, or insecure. Your art process shows important things about you. We look at it in different ways: what it means to you, what symbols it contains, and how your thoughts affect your feelings.
